DotBlock offers two types of upgrade options:
1) Flexible/variable upgrade during which only the CPU/RAM/Bandwidth are upgraded thus allowing you to downgrade back to a lower package in the future if you wish. These upgrades can be done on-the-fly only requiring that your server is shutdown and then rebooted to acquire the additional resources.
2) Permanent upgrade during which the disk space on your server is expanded along with the CPU/RAM/Bandwidth. You would be unable to downgrade back to a lower package in the future without a reinstall. These types of upgrades can involve up to an hour of downtime.
